Hi Friends, Somavamshis of Odisha (old Orissa) gets same reception as that of the Cholas in Tamilnadu. As per Puri temple chronicles they were the kings who formed the backbone of Orissa and put the foundation of the Orissan culture and tradition. Yayati, a Somavamshi king, is assigned as the founder of Orissa and all the temples at Bhubaneswar are assigned to this king. Though the temple chronicles put him in very early centuries, but as per epigraphical evidences, he was ruling in 10th century CE. Some nice points to read are: 1. Indraratha, who was defeated by Rajendra Chola, was a king of this dynasty. 2. Reference to Setu-bandha (Rama setu) is found in one of their grant.
