Hi Friends, Sheorinarayan is a place in Chhattisgarh which traces its antiquity from the Ramayana period and it is believed that Shabari was staying here. She met Lord Rama here only.
You all might be aware of Shabari who is the symbol of devotion towards god. It is assumed that she was born in some lower caste but with her devotion she wins over god and got darshan of Lord Rama. It is also believed that she offered fruits to Rama after tasting herself and Rama accepted her offerings with pleasure thus proving that god does not differentiate between devotees of higher caste and lower caste, you win him only through your devotion.
Story of Shabari is told in many epics, starting from Ramayana. To my surprise I found that Valmiki Ramayana does not mention any Ber fruit offerings by Shabari to Rama. As the matter was related to Ramayana so I called Sankar sir to find out when this story came into tradition. But we were not able to find this story though we consulted various versions and later adaptations. Even Tulsidas, of sixteenth century CE, does not mention is particular episode in his Ramacharitamanas. If anyone of you can help in this, I would be really grateful.
Another topic is whether it was Sheorinarayan where Shabari stayed or it was Hampi as the latter is popularly known as Kishkinda region mentioned in Ramayana. I was not able to find much on this however will keep my search on and will update the article in future.
Any comment or feedback from you is most welcome, as always.
