Acharappakkam rfefereferredhevaaram as Achirupakkam. Legend is that Siva went for Tripura Samharam without worshipping Ganapati and the axle broke here. Then he worshipped Ganapati and went for Tripura Samharam.
Now the only evidence is Sambandar refers the place as Achirupakkam and there is no reference of the story. Siva started from Thiruvirkolam ( Perambakkam ) and the samharam happened at Thiruvadigai ( Panruti) and Achirupakkam is on the way. But the story is not mentioned in the Thevaaram . Sambandar mentions the birth of Ganesa in Acirupakkam thevaaram.

பிடியத னுருவுமை கொளமிகு கரியது வடிகொடு தனதடி வழிபடு மவரிடர் கடிகண பதிவர வருளினன் மிகுகொடை வடிவினர் பயில்வலி வலமுறை யிறையே. பொழிப்புரை : மிகுதியாக வழங்கும் கொடையே தமக்கு அழகைத் தரும் என நினையும் வள்ளற் பெருமக்கள் வாழும் வலிவலத்தில் உறையும் இறைவன், உமையம்மை பெண்யானை வடிவுகொள்ள, தான் ஆண்யானையின் வடிவு கொண்டு தன் திருவடியை வணங்கும் அடிய வர்களின் இடர்களைக் கடியக் கணபதியைத் தோற்றுவித்தருளினான்.
During the search of Ramayanam, i saw this pannel in tirukkovalur, which is dated to RRC. ( end 10th C).Siva with his bow and Ganapati in sitting posture, indicating being worshipped.
This shows that the story was known but its relationship to Achirupakkam is not clearly established.
Hence this is a proof for Bhakthas but for Reasearcher, needs more supportig evidence.
