  • Pune's vehicle population has increased by 67% between 2003 and 2009,
but supply of fuel (petrol and diesel) has decreased by 16% in the same
period, as per the Pune Municipal Corporation's Environmental Status
    Report.
Year No. of vehicles (lakhs) Supply of fuel (core
    litres)2003 10.57 (2W 8.64, cars 1.0) 52.42004 11.52
    52.892005 12.24 35.722006
    13.53 93.272007 15.10
    32.952008 16.23 78.652009
    17.62 (2W 13.12, cars 2.17) 44.32
Several conclusions can be drawn: data is suspect, vehicles are more
fuel efficient, less use of vehicle, registered in pune but used
    elsewhere, octroi evasion, etc.
My view is, we must use historical data with time/date element with
suspicion and always specify both the original dates and derived modern
christian dates. Our calendar system is relative.
