Hi, Kuranganilmuttam is located near Kanchipuram. This small village has a cave temple which is excavated below the ground level. There is no Pallava inscription found in this cave, a later inscription gives us the name as Kal-mandakam. There are three shrines excavated on the back wall of the cave, probably dedicated for Hindu Trinity.
for eg - In Kurakkukka - Appar refers the place where there are lot of Monkeys - hence it may be a Kurakku+ Ka - Monkey + garden. ( 5-75-10)
The legend of Hanuman worshiping there needs more proof.
In My Ramayanam series i have not considered many such Kurangu temples for which neither have literary refernces of the story or a valisvaram ref on pre 12th epigraphs.
Only Vada Kurangaduthurai has a clear thevaram ref of the legend. The other thevara/vaipu thalangals - ThenKurangaduthurai, Kuranganil muttam, Kurakkukka, Kurakkuthali, Thirukkarikkarai - dont have the story refered in the thevaram.
In thirukkarikkarai, till Vijayanagar the epigraphs refer as Mahadevar and the term valisvaram comes only in vijayanagar period. The others dont have even valisvaram ref in epigraphs.
I don't know why many lines are stricken off. Looks some technical mistake. Please read them full ( or is that any indication that i am going to get the proof in future)
