Inscriptions for 2000th year celebration?
  • SPS and other group leaders
In her address, Dr. Padma Subramanian asked that some information of the 1000th
day celebrations and the dance program be inscribed in the temple walls so that
future generations will learn about it.

I propose that the existence of a PS group and valararu.com also be inscribed.
Granted this started years before 1000th year, but it important for future
generations to know the passion that our generation has shown using modern
technology and hopefully, will continue to inspire them.

Books may disappear.. even internet archives may either disappear or become
impossibly huge to mine, but such an inscription will keep the flame alive.

In our small way, we have to keep the passion for tamil history alive among our
children. My life's ambition is to get my US-born kids to read PS in tamil :))
    (Just kidding!)Regards,

  • Dear Deepa Bhaskaran -

Such contemporary inscriptions are NOT possible to be scribed in a Protected Monument...

The Laws - protecting Monuments do not permit.

May be out side the Big temple complex - something can be planned -

re the 1000 year celebrations !!

" I propose that the existence of a PS group and valararu.com also be inscribed... "

Very nice suggestion ... Truly motivating too.

With due respects I submit -

    IN THE ENTIRE PROCESS -
NOT A SINGLE WORD MENTIONED / WRITTEN / DISPLAYED

    RE KALKI OR PONNIYINSELVAN...

Because Facts meant be isolated from Fiction !!

    But Karuvurar's Hymns or
Rajarajan Natakam could not be treated at par with
    impeccable inscriptions..

Only our (Groups) deeds - related to these - will gain us place
    in History too.

We will work more for it..

    Thanks for motivating..

    best regards / sps

  • IN THE ENTIRE PROCESS -
NOT A SINGLE WORD MENTIONED / WRITTEN / DISPLAYED

    RE KALKI OR PONNIYINSELVAN...

At the same time - the myths...

That the Sigaram was of single stone -
NO .. combination of about 8 pieces..

The sigaram was taken to top from Sarapallam by a taper arrangement -
NO.. It was spiral arrangement -
Sands filled first over which heavy blocks were moved !

These were quoted by other Orators too in the "Karutharangam " ( Seminar )- apart from Dr. Kudavayil too.

The sources are our extensive discussion in our Group !!

Akasa Linga concept .. in Vimanam
Fire concept - Water concept in the Entrance Gopuras !!

all which were discussed in Group - we could see and relish in the Exhibition !!

And the Selection of photos !!

    Panchavan Madevi Pallippadai
    Arinjayeeswaram
    Kothandarameswaram ..

    Uthiramerur insciptions etc., etc.

The exhibition was almost the visual effect w.r.t. most of our discussions !!

We have also requested the Government officials to keep a permanent exhibition in Thanjai selecting some of the very aspects from this exhibition !!

Now we have seen the photos to some extent.

Let us hear more views on the Thanjai Exhibition too !!

    warm regards / sps

  • Thank you Mr.T.Veerasamy,

You have done my job, but very politelyand gently. I show my anger very predominantly when I see stupidity of self agrandisement or self centredmen indulging in such social activities.

Further even this hype about Rajaraja chola, is meaningles,

Thanjai Periya Koil is a brilliant piece of architecture. It beholds the finest artisans, sculptures, builders and master designers should have co-ordinated and put up the best of their eforts.

Henric Muller in "Uses of the past", a remarkable work, demolishes thoughts of 'hero Worship' in the study of history. A sober min is needed to survey history.

I only hope myviews will be permitted in this forum.

    Ozymandias

    by Percy Bysshe Shelley

I met a traveler from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
    The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look upon my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
