I recently visited 'Akshayalinga Swamy' temple in KilVelur around 12 kms from Thiruvarur. When i had a chat with the temple priest about the temples history he told that it was built by the Chola King Kochengannan. Now i know kochengannan is an early Chola king and should belong to a period before 4th century A.D.(Correct me if i am wrong).
Can someone throw more light on this? Is this temple really that much old? If thats the case, would'nt the ASI taken control of it?
