Aayirathil Oruvan - Indra Haram?????
  • Typed so much..but didn't go through in previous message..re typing it!

VJ is preparing one great post on Indra Haram , the valued jewel of Pandyas .PS reader would know the Cholas quest for the Indra Haram and multiple invasions of Eelam to secure it.
Vj says that there is not record of its possession after RJC.

When I was chatting with VJ I had a weird speculation.

Could Aayirathil oruvan be a movie on Indra Haram?

The Three main characters (hero and two heroines) are treasure seekers
The film is part period film.
Vairamuthu said he had gone through whole of Chola history to write the lyrics.
Selvaragavan saying the period has heavy Telegu influence...

    Speculative mathematics:
Last of Chalukya CHolas- explains Telegu influence
Defeated king -(probably parthiban)- from the Thai Thindra Mane lyrics
    Probably Pandyas defeating Chalukya-Cholas....

So are the treasure seekers looking for Indra haram?...bcos there is no historical record that it was re captured by the Pandyas.

Very very speculative post...but possible... las time it was Dasavatharam which induced so many discussions..hope this movie post brings such discussion!
  • The director has written a small preface in the audio cd. He says that the
story is around 11th - 12th century, which is the period of decline for
    chola's. you might be right.

Also I saw a movie which I don't remember the name, but the crux is the
search "Silambu of Kannai". Though it is not a great movie, at that point of
time(some 13-14yrs back) I liked the movie for its historical background.
  • Technically both her Silambu was broken in Pandyas court(one by her to show it was gems inside and other by the king to verify it..queens silambu had pearls...goes on to show the trading community was richer than kings those days!!!)...
If any thing was left over it would have melted in the great fire of Mathurai....

wonder whether they got hold of the silambu in that movie!!!

    Vairam
  • > wonder whether they got hold of the silambu in that movie!!!

She breaks only one silambu to prove kovalans innocence. The other? He takes the other in her hands, argues against the king until he dies and then burns the city.

Madurai may be in ashes... but the silambu of kannaki? that will not burn:-)
  • In the movie, it is said that one of the ministers gathered all the pearls
that get scattered and remade the silambu. But they don't mention about the
    other silambu at all.

Howdy, Stranger!
