    This
Sivasthalam is Situated in Kovai-Madurai Highway ,exactly between
Palladam and Tharapuram. It''s 28km from Palladam and 16 Km from
    Tharapuram

    Main Deity : Vidangeeswarar
    Goddess : Visalatchi
    Ksetra Balakar : KalaBairava Vaduganathar
    Holy tree : Ianthai
    Darshan time : 6 am – 12pm ,4pm – 9pm
    Sthalam : "Konra-Idam" - Kundadam

    In
Mahabharatha, Keesakan Who was problematic to Draupathi was killed by
Bheema in this place. Reffering to killing ("konra-Idam") , this place
later became Kundadam. Kundadam- Kalabhairava Vaduganathar is
considered very sacred as equal to Kasi-Kalabhairavar.
    Another
Interesting fact is (which also refers to kundadam) when the Pandavas
were in exile into the forests, they ventured out into the country in
disguise. They were travelling near the place called Dharapuram, and
one of the Dhuryodhana's men identified the Pandavas and went on to
    inform Dhuryodhana.
The place where the Pandavas is called
Kandidam [Kanda (Found) + Idam (Place)], which later got transformed
    and now called as Kundadam.

  • Wonderful Natarajan. Interesting to read the sthala puranams of many places.

I have a very close friend named Vaduganathan, and though I know it should be one of the deities name, could never come across one.

If am remember well, this temple is the first one I am hearing about Vaduganathar...thanks...
by the way, what does Vaduganathar mean??
    Can anyone explain?
  • Dear member
Vaduga Nathar is the form of Sivan blessess with 10 hands with Soolam, Vaal, Angusam, Abhayam, Vardham, Kabalam, Nagam, Pasam, Dhandam and Parigai(wheel like). When Brahma becamevery proud his head in the centre was cut by Vaduganathar.
Kalabhairavar was the form of Sivan who punished Dhakshan, Vishnu and Brahma when they became very proud and blessed them. The 4 Vedas in the form of a Dog came as his Vahanam. He undertook the works of Brahma for sometime.
  • Dear Vishwak
I thought it was Virabhadra, emanating from Lord Shiva,
    who punished Daksha.

  • Dear Member
Virabhadra came from one of the Sadai of Sivan when Dhakshan performed Yagna without inviting Sivan and Dhakshayani. Dhakshayanai was insulted when she came and asked. So she sent Kali and Sivan took a Sadai and thrthe Yagna and punished all who attended the Yagna. Finally Virabhadra killed Dhakshan.
Kalabhairavar's story is well before the Yagna and is different from Virbhadhra. Kalabhairavar only punished Dhakshan and later Virabhdra killed him.

  • Dear Nataraj,
I look forward to your podcasts each week. I can't understand
the Tamil but like to hear what it sounds like.
I've created a database separate from my big, all So. Asia
one, of all the TN Koils you've given us. I have fields for all
the parts of your information : deities, purana, name, location.
Please keep it up. It's just what I'm looking for.
    Thank you
    Kathie
