Big Temple: Foundation stone and donor names
  • I don't know how this important discovery missed the attention of all of us. Seems it was published in newspapers 10-15 days ago.

The foundation stones which are normally invisible have been exposed in the northern corridor of big temple. And, many stones carry the names of a donor!!!

In other words, the entire complex seems to have been conceived as a joint effort between the people and the emperor - and not a royal vanity as some scholars stress and portray.

Imagine each foundation stone carrying the name of "perudharam" and sirutharam officers... not that rajaraja could not afford such stones. But it is the spirit of participation !!

In the light of this new evidence "Naam Koduthanavum" inscription conveys newer meanings....
  • Very touching, Thanks Gokul.
