akanAnURu 141 & Tiruvannamalai Karthikai Deepam
  • I am reading akanAn2URu poem 141 where there
    are some astronomical references to
    "Kaartttikai viLakkITu" festival. This festival
is one of the most important in Tamil 'Saiva
calender, and is two-weeks after Deepavali.
In general, 'suura samhaaram fetsival in Murukan
temples also happens in between the two.

Here is my preliminary take on the meaning
of aka. 141. Some notes are posted at,
    http://nganesan.blogspot.com/2009/01/akam-141-karthikai-deepam.html

A beautiful sangam poem with astronomical allusions
to three most important festivals in Tamil 'Saiva calender
year cycle: (a) Deepavali, where the divine couple start
the dice game (b) 'Siva parakrama episodes follow
culminating in Lingodbhava utsavam in Tiruvannamalai
and (c) 'Suura samhaaram by the divine couple's
    child, Murukan.
