The legend is that Upamanyu, son of vyagrapada, as an infant was crying out of hunger and was fed with milk by purushothama nayaki. This temple is also one of the 11 Divya Desams of Thirumangai Azhwar. Thirumangai Azhwar Mangalaasaasanam utsavam is in the Tamil month of Thai is a spectacular event.

Tiruvali is dhivyadhesam along with Thirunagari. Thirunagari is around 3 kms from Thiruvali. Thirunagari also has a very big temple (bigger than all other 10 dhivyadhesams nearby). The so called 'Thiruttu' of Thirumangai on Sri Ranganathar has been carried out here only. The temple is very old but renovated by Naik Kings. The temple has no prasadham counter. Free prasadham every day during puja times. It is said that the famous 'Annadhaanam' was caaried out by Thirumangai here.
Yoga Narasimhar at the backside of Moolavar is very famous.
Two small news: The Thirunagari village being nearby to river Uppanaaru and Seashore, salt watered wells are only available But at the temple complex, a well, having very sweet water, is always available even in dry periods too. This is drinking water for more than 50 families as well for temple rituals daily.
