Is there any reason, a particular place name is changed in due course of time? The recent changes are mainly due to pronunciations of local names by the europeans - like ooty from otacamund from udagamandalam, travancore from tiruvangur, triplicane from tiruvallinkeni..etc..
But why the ancient names were changed without any resemblance to the old names? Any pointers? Can anyone throw light on this.
