  • Hi
just when we are talking about shivas valiant deeds her is case of
striking when the metal is hot

    one of the veerattaanam sthalams.
but there is a small difference here.
it is perhaps the only shrine of the 8 veerattaanams where we dont
    have a devaram song.
however since its mentioned by appar elsewhere its avaippu thalam.

  • Vazhuvur Ramaiah Pillai Dancing pattern is one of the most
    traditional pattern in Classical dance.

In Vazhuvur, next to that Gaja Samhara Bronze, there is a Bronze
    depicting a Dancing entity (Kali ? )..

    superlative work !

And Karnataka Belur (Hoysala) Gajasamhara also comes to mind !

One can see the finger nails of Siva pierced through the Elephant
    skin ..

In Tamilnadu, Gajasamhara in Thanjai Art Gallery is one among the
    best (by the Cholas !).

  • Very nice link, dear Venkat.

    Didn't know it is Vaippusthalam.

Vazhuvur is also appeared to be known as UNJENAI MAAKALAM !

Which is from UJJAIN MAHAKALAM !!

And to WIN the Confidence Motion, a Sect of Ruling Political Arm has
conducted BHARAVA POOJA in the "Live" burial / Cremation Ground in
Ujjaini - Monday night - reports TOI.

    Hi sir

recently i went to perur ( near coimbatore) - the hall has one of
the best sculptured pillars i have seen. the gaja sambaramurthy is
    superb.

    0300.htm

however what interested me was the the Alankaattu Kali and Urthuvaa
Thandava muthy facing each other ( opp pillar)

i had earlier thought the lady underneath the dancing shiva was
umai, but this time closer inspection revealed it to be a beautiful
decpition of karaikkaal ammai ( with her shrivelled front portion).
another interesting point was brahma ( here is shown with five
heads - maybe this dance happened before the head plucking incident)
and vishnu - accompanying the dance with musical instruments.the
back side of the pillar has naradha ( bearded)
  • Vijay
The Alankatu Kali in Perur appears to be  shy with eyes down due to defeat when you stand near Siva & look at her , but when you go nearer you can see she is looking at Shiva with anger.
