Request - Important temples in Thanjavur to be visited
  • Dear All,

I am planning a trip to Thanjai during the last week of May. This is my first ever trip to Thanjavur and I am very excited about it. Since it is going to last for a few days, I would like to visit all important temples in and around Thanjavur, some of them which are mentioned in Ponniyin Selvan as well. Could you please suggest temples to be visited? I searched on the net and found a few repeated over and over again. But does any of you know of any temple which is historically rich but not frequented much by travellers(in other words, not commercialized yet). Thanks a lot.

    Eagerly waiting,
    Poornima
  • Thank you SPS, I will save this for my visit also
    sometime in the future.

I have some idea about Rahul's question on Thiruvarur,
in case noone answered it. Will post in a separate
    thread.

  • Dear Poornima,
I'd like to recommend Brahmapurishvaram Kovil, Pullamangai,
[Pulumangai] northeast of Thanjai, early Chozha, absolute best
murthis. Don't know about its history, but artistically it's a
    masterpiece.
