Update on journals
  • Dear all...

    Alright, here's the latest:

"Sons of the Sun - The Solar Genealogy of a Chola King" has been
proof-read twice and has been filed away in the Files section of PS-
Koppukal. (The Ponniyinselvan Files section doesn't have enough
space). More papers will be added to this one.

    Thanks to:

    Arul Prasad :(for OCR)
    Lavanya (Poonghuzhali) :First proof-reading
    Malini :Second Proof-reading

People- this particular journal has a good deal of info about
the 'Thiruvaalangaattu Copper Plates'- and it discusses the family
trees of the Chola dynasty in detail. A must-read!

Will update the group as and when the journals are uploaded.
  • Well, my impression on reading the paper once - there is a typical
colonial mindset.. there is a bias.. a basis assumption that Cholas couldnt
have been as great as is claimed in the copper plates. The author makes
an assumption that the heridity from Sun & from that of Karikalan,
Kochchenganan are invoked to bring credibility to Vijayalaya and the
generation of Cholas after him.. dismissing as myths, the Genealogy given
in the copper plates till Vijayalaya. And ends in a similar notes
questioning the authenticity of conquests by Chola emperors.

My initial biased (that we had a great civilization) thoughts.. waiting to
    hear from the rest

    -Magesh

PS: Not sure if the discussions need to be done in PS-Varalaaru group
    only.. pls clarify

  • Dear Magesh,

I share your opinion. I got this impression even before reading sons
of sun - there was one more paper on chola conquest over srilanka
uploaded by mani - and that was even more damaging.
Neverthless, I give due respect for this scholar who has certainly
done enormous amount of research in the subject. Hence I prefer to
take the gist of his research - if not his conclusions.

If you find time, do read some of the books by communist writers like
Dr.N.Vaanamamalai and Ramamoorthy. They present an altogether
different story of all this cholas, pandiyas and other kings.

    Truth has 2 sides - is'nt it ?
  • Arul, Poo, Malini and Pavitra - Very good work.
Proof reading such a detailed document is no joke. I find it very
difficult to go through all the stuff in one go.
'Should have taken you guys lot of time and effort.

Nandriyai thavira veru enna solla mudiyum ?
