digging up important sites
  • Hi;
    check this link http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2008/04/01/stonehenge-dig.html
they are digging up Stonehenge in England.
Now what is stopping us from digging up RRC's resting place in Udayalur and
doing a carbon dating on the skeleton inside (if there is one:) )
  • -Hi
    remember the pharohs curses??

perhaps thats why when the mummy of rameses 2 was sent to france for
some restorative work. it was received in paris with a gun salute
because he had been a head of state.

i think the burial place of RRc could be anywhere. there are legends
of his death( even before mandala puja was over) in many parts of
    tamilnadu.
i have heard of it in parangipettai near chidambaram,.
  • If only somebody digs these up and dates them, we could know exactly.if
there are 4-5 sites then lets carbon date them all. What could be more
important than finding the resting place of one of India's greatest kings(Hi
    Vijay :) )?
  • India's greatest kings(Hi
    > Vijay :) )?
One of South east asia's greatest kings....
  • Hi vijay
2 things which were unexplained were

    the shroud of the turin
and the blood of san gerrano

where the blood of a murdered saint remains solid for most of the
year but on his birthday becomes blood like again

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Januarius

as far as the shroud was concerned way back there was an article in
    national geographic

by identifying pollen grains on the shroud they determined it was
    from palestine. so innovative.
but i think they dated it a thousand yeas after christ or
    something.not sure.
still they cant explain how the image is a photographic negative.

  • Hi
a whole range of sites have been discussed for rrcs resting site.
including the audacious pallipadai concept of big temple.

if we see the other side of the argument.....

it was much huger than anything then, the tallest structure on the
    earth(??)
    it was called rajarajeshwaram
it was unfinished and abandoned soon after rrc( usually happens to
    pallipadai temples)
rather than fight against that argument we should seriously consider
    studying this possiblity too,

    hi venkat

Thanks exactly what i meant - the more scientific tests are done the
    more confusing it gets...

    - pollen was also explained ( you can read the wiki article)
    - even the radio carbon dating diff is disputed

but the central question remains - how the image came about. i also
saw in the program a believer in the shroud challenging anyone to
comeup with a similar image....reminded our friend ( pilli sooniyam
opposer) in neeya naana vijay tv
  • lets say asia for a broader field.
    and rulers too.
and is conquest the only parameter?
most of these guys are tyrants elswere and heroes at home

    MY LIST
    ghengiz khan
    timur
    babur
    sher shah suri
    sivaji
    tipu
    ranjit singh

I would also add robert clive and malik kafur in this list , but i'll
    get thrown out.

  • Hi Mr.Venketesh;
Nice list. I dont think Malik Kafur and Clive come under 'kings"..

What about Ashoka,Chandragupta-2 (Vikramaditya),Harsha...why no Akbar?

    Its a pretty controversial list.

    yes rahul
chandragupta and asoka must make the list.
the latter for the impact he has had till today.

also add saladin of "Talisman" fame

Saladin, a 12th-century Kurd who became Sultan of Egypt and Syria,
and a major Muslim political and military leader. At the height of
his power the Ayyubid dynasty, which he founded, ruled over Egypt,
    Syria, Iraq, Hejaz, and Yemen.
he was asia's answer to the crusaders from europe.

  • Hi Sri

i dont think such a digging up on the scale of egypt can happen
    anywhere.

last week on nat geo or discovery was an episode on lord kitcheners
army in africa.showed nubian pyramids.nubian pyramids ( for others
who may not be well versed in egyptology) are those smaller ones in
sudan numbering 220 whereas egypt has only 120 pyramids.)
one nubian pyramid was reportedly holding gold and an italian
adventurare dynamited it and blew off the top half.
a value of the past clearly is a new found attribute.
we have had rampart stones of GKC.puram used for kallanai reinforcing
and kollidam bridges. bricks from harrappa were used as ballast for
laying the north west frontier railway.
