Legendsays that Lord Narayana had worshipped Lord Shiva in the form oftortoise (kachapa) in this place.Hence the name kachur and Lord shivawas named as Kachepeswarar. Lord shiva himself came as a Brahmin indisguise and fetched food and gave it to Sundarar who was very hungrywhen he came to this temple.Lord was named as "Virunditta Iswarar" ---seen as Lingam in outer praharam. So it is believed that worshippingLord here will solve problems with food in their home.

a picturusque spot very close to marai malai nagar ford. a small hill top temple too.
a set of our group members visited swetha, sathish, muruganandam etc. we found the inner sanctum had edicts of RRC a very neglected temple but i have even temples have a jathagam to flourish and this is going to happen soon. the new six lane outer ring road of chennai touches this temple. lets hope it gets more popular too.
