I agree. Of course with one condition. The Veera vaishnava vivadam must be limited to Azhwarkadiyan - pre Ramanuja - days. We must not get into veera vadakalai or veera thenkalai issues. They can get equally hot. Sampath
Azvarkadiyan is typical veera vaishnavar potrayal. The Vaisnava vs Siva battar fight is the only major episode where there is considerable fiction. I dont believe Nambi was into the vaishnava vs saiva battle. It was purely manifested either to divert or attract attention.
I too dont want to prolong this topic.. there is no point in emotionalising it..
THe reason why i posted this discussion was to discuss the ethics followed in the wars followed by our kings.. and particularly since, some of the members equated British & Mughals with Cholas in the same plane, i just pointed out the difference here..
Unfortunately it got deviated..
The core message i got from this discussion are, that conquest of our kings, did not upset the social order in most places.. for example, in indonesia & Thailand, the people rever ramayana and sanskrit great.. this could not be possible, if cholas had rampaged the entire country..
So it would be interesting if we dwell more on the war ethics followed by our kings..
As vijay has pointed out few times, that even cholas went on slaughtering woman and brahmins, raped women, research in to war ethics will reveal us more..
