• Dear Jay Bee and Udanx

This is highly controversial subject and I feel its
    totally irrelevant.

I heard from somewhere Rajaraja Cholan were from
    Pallar community.

Last year Tamilnadu was celebrating Rajaraja Cholan's
sadhaya vizha and 2 groups were fighting same day for
    Rajaraja from which caste?

Karikal Cholan never been called Thevar or Karuvur
Thevar(Rajaraja Cholan's guru) may not Thevar.

So if you feel comfort call him Rajaraja Thevar.

I would certainly go for something big such as great
    Tamil emperor Rajaraja Cholan.

Great people come from all walks of life!

Actually we don't need kind of stirring subject which
    won't get anything!
  • cooll.. well said vijay...

  • Hi All,

I think he is form udayar community. That too is a
Patta Peyar I believe. Since Trichy & Tanjore
districts were ruled by Cholas, there is a chance that
they might belong to udayar community.

Because Thevars belong to Madurai, Tirunelveli
    districts.

Again all these kings carried a lot of PATTA PEYAR
    with them.

It could be nice to know the community of the kings as
they may shed some light on history.

I completely agree that community does nothing to the
    personality of a great man.

I dis agree.of course those days communities have something to do
    with the kingship

    today it may not

lets be honest. cant we identify a common trend in memebrs of one
    community.
some are good in maths , some in business some in language skills.
    some in physical work.
this is due to inbreeding in the caste system. darwins selective
breeding over years.for example the gene pool in england was limited.
mainly because people were marrying only within locals.
with the onset of the locomotive people from wales were marrying
those in bristol. the genepool widened and progress started.
in india even if a boy moves to Usa we bring him back and marry him
    off in the same caste.
so I am sure kshatriya castes like thevars, maravars kallars must
have had warring capacities in their blood and its not only due to
training. just like the bania castes and business, or bramhin castes
    and learning.
ofcourse even amidst them we had greats who stood apart in their
communities and the world in large.

  • Very likely it should be the patta peyar given for some herioc
deeds. For instance, my house name in my village is called "Thevar"
house and my grand father name is Vijaya Ganapathy Thevar. This has
nothing to do with the community. It is just that is was given in
those days for some brave deeds

  • I saw this topic. I know it is old but wish to give my opinion.

Mukkulathor (3 clans) - Maravar, Kallar and Agamudayar

Maravar - Subcategory will be KaruMaravar,IlaMaravar, SembiNattuMaravar,KondayamKottaiMaravar etc. The Maravar generally use the title Thevar. This is a title given to a person or his family for heroic deeds. It is also a title which reflects the authority of the person. High population of Maravars can be found in areas like Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Madurai, Tirunelveli.

Kallar - They probably form the majority in the Mukkulathor. They have Pattai Peyar. People of the same Pattai Peyar do not intermarry. Examples of Pattai Peyar are Thondaiman, Sendapriyar, Alampriyar, Kandapillai, Vandayar, Kandiyar, Pinnudar. The Kallars form the majority in Thanjavur and Pudukottai. The Piranmalai Kallar are the oldest tribe in India.

Agamudayar - Many Agamudayar use the title Servai or Servaikaran. The Marudu Pandiar brothers belong to the Agamudayar clan. There is a another category of Agamudayar known as Raja Kulam Agamudayar. They are believed to be of royal lineage.
