Carbon dating AMS 14C analysis At Institue of Physics Bhubaneswar .

Please mail to me for coordinations in this regards

Samples are accepted from external researchers for AMS 14C analysis,
for collaborative research projects in fields of paleoclimate,
    oceanography, archaeology, etc.

Prior to submission, researcher may contact the laboratory
describing the project for which the 14C data is needed and
regarding the collection and submission procedure for specific
    sample type.

A short research proposal needs to be submitted as 1-2 page
abstract, describing the project for which the AMS 14C-dates are
needed. Rather than describing the entire background of the project,
the abstract should be concise, highlighting the needs of AMS 14C-
    dates.

The proposal will be evaluated by a panel of scientists before the
samples are accepted for analysis by IOP.

Submitted proposals are reviewed once every six months. Upon
acceptance of the proposal, the researcher may proceed with the
    sample submission.

The quantity of submitted sample should be enough to yield a minimum
of ~5mg of carbon. Though for analysis only 1mg of C as graphite is
required, quantity of submitted sample should be enough to
accommodate for losses during pretreatment processes and replicate
    analyses.

Typical minimum sample weights needed for various sample types are:
    Carbonate rocks: ~50mg
    Foraminifers: ~20mg
Organic samples (wood / charcoal): ~20mg
    Peat: 50~100mg
Soil or sediments: 100~200mg (depending on C content)
    Seawater: 500ml
Groundwater: 200~500ml (depending on DIC content)
Samples can also be submitted as cryogenically purified CO2 gas in
vacuum sealed Pyrex tubes (~10cm long and 1/4" OD), containing
200µmol of the gas. It is recommended to submit samples in excess of
the minimum needed for analysis, to account for losses during
cleaning and pretreatment and also for replicate analyses, but
advisable not to exceed 10gm in any case for untreated samples.

Submitter should seek advise from the laboratory if carbon content
in the sample is uncertain or for any other sample collection or
    pretreatment procedure.

Each sample submitted for analysis must accompany filled in and duly
signed sample submission form in the prescribed format (download
form from the link above), with details of principal investigator's
contact information, sample type, location, nature of preservation,
pretreatment (if required), carbon content (if known). Location is
    mandatory for marine carbonate samples.

The expected age may be given where ever possible. This will only
help us to choose from a suite of check standards with wide range of
14C contents. If specific components are to be dated, they must be
mentioned in the submission form. The sample submission form should
    be complete in all respects.

Samples can be submitted by mailing them to:
