Yesterday, Sivaram and myself attended a talk at the Roja Muthiah Research Library. We had a chance to talk to the director (Thats how he was introduced... but I thought Theodore Bhaskaran was the director of RMRL! ) after the talk.
We queried why it was taking them so long to respond to our query whether, the original 1950s edition of kalki magazine pages where ponniyin selvan got published could be scanned and CD/DVDs made (not for publishing but for reading pleasure).
He said that he was getting many requests like that, but he was having trouble doing that because the pictures are still copyrighted by Maniam family, and that they are touchy about it... If we can get their permission directly or through Kalki, we can make a CD of the available ponniyin selvan episodes in a CD. Maybe we can password protect it to prevent exploitation... or may be we can let RMRL keep the online copy, so that they get some publicity too...
What do you all think? I would really appreciate help from the senior members of the group.
It would be great if some body helps to get the permission from Maniam family for the digitizing the books. I can't hardly wait to see it in digital form.
