Guys, I'd like to propose another noble idea: This idea came to me when I read Kamal's mail on Pon Malai Pozhudu in the files section once again. As we are getting in touch with more and more scholars, it becomes necessary to have some form of library containing rare collections on Cholas and South Indian History in general. Then we can go on a public appeal to scholars and general public, asking to donate books for us. (I'm pretty sure that many vital volumes are lying around in trunks - untouched and unread - in many homes). This library will become a source for all who are interested in learining more about the subject.... Already Mr.Devamani Raphel has begun this project by donating his excellent book to the group. We just need to take it further. We can also organise a website wherein people will be able to buy these books. Ofcourse, we need to see how this books can be made available to all members of the group who are across the globe. We will work out the details as we go along....but beginning is more important. I think this should begin in Chennai which is becoming a sort of hub for our activities.... IS THERE ANYBODY INTERESTING IN TAKING A LEAD IN THIS???
Gokul this is an excellent idea. But this requires really dedicated folks, which I am sure can be easily found in our group. I would like to add that we could classify some of those as classics, depending on how rare they are or something. The reason for doing that is we can donate those to project madurai and make it available open to all. Ideally speaking if given the opportunity we should make all the books available in digitised format so that everyone can enjoy these rare collections or can be made available in some cost for maintenance and/or for charity models. These come later, so lets not bother. But our aim should also be to digitise the books we collect in any plans we might design.
This idea - as also was conceived by Tamil Heritage Foundation - could get the help of Thanjai Tamil Univesity and space is allocated in chennai itself.
Also ditigalisation of RARE Books - which do not involve copy-right issues.
We can work in unison with T H F .. for such tasks.
Dear Gokul RRC Library...the name itself gives something into mind. Great! I can give Sangam Literatures (Tamil)Kurunthogai, Natrinai, Kalithogai, Agananooru and India's Struggle Quarter a Century (English)- by JC Guha - the real situations of our freedom struggle. Agri Siragugal (Tamil)by Dr.Abdul Kalam Some more treasures are also with me to give. But how will you keep them and where? How can our members read them, please inform.
