I have heard from one of Shakthi Upasaki, that Mahakavi is a Kali Upasaka.
He is gifted with art of drawing Srichakram on this hand and performs pooja to it. Most of Kali Upasakas get Kavithvam, Mahakavi Kalidas, Vikatakavi and Subramanya Bharati.
