I am not able to accept ayyanar as ayyappan. Am curious to know if there is any documented evidence about this.
I dont know if this is always true, but heard from a friend that ayyanar temples were basically old tombsites for dead warriors of a village. They believed the athmas of the slain warriors will protect the village forever. This makes sense to me..
